Background:
The Sea Skua is a British Lightweight Short-Range Air-to-Surface Anti-Ship Missile designed for use from helicopters against ships. It was primarily used by the Royal Navy on the Westland Lynx but also by many other nations and from other platforms.
History:
Sea Skuas were rushed into service at the start of the Falklands War in 1982, with the missile being launched eight times during the conflict, sometimes in extremely bad weather, and scoring very high hit rates against Argentine ships & boats. The missile also proved itself again during the Gulf War 9 years later against Iraqi ships & boats. Sea Skua’s success in active service and its adoption by the Royal Navy resulted in considerable success in the international market.
