My model for the Camp Bastion Air Base static I made as part of my idea/experiment on how to improve our airbases as the BF2 System was inflexible, 2D and you couldn't create realistic airbases. With the new system, I managed to overcome pretty much all of the issues with previous methods of making airbases, without any real drawbacks. List of solved problems:
- No Z-fighting between the Airbase Model and the Terrain from both up close and far away
- Realistic Airbase Layouts with Realistic Detail Markings such as Taxiway Lines and Runway Marking which also makes the airbase Friendly to Multiple Aircraft.
- New detailed, realistic textures giving the new Airbase System a realistic look and feel.
- Airbase is a 3D model, but only a few cms off the ground which is realistic
- Aircraft which "fall off" the taxiway/runway can get back on the taxiway/runway (unlike the Qinling Airbase)
- Fixed Wing Aircraft (Jets) are encouraged to use the proper Taxiway and Runway setup as going off the runway will mean you take damage from the terrain (this now applies to all maps)
- No large Lightmap file required as the new Airbase System uses the Terrain's Lightmap
- Aircraft Reloading and Repair in Appropriate Areas, not on the Runway

The Bastion Airbase was also created as realistically as possible with the limitations of the BF2 engine, the size being the main difference as we didn't have the space to create a full-scale version, so some modifications were made to the real design in order to allow it to fit into our scale, but still keeping a realistic look and feel to it with all the necessary runway and taxiway markings too. The runway may appear to be missing some markings a runway should have but that’s due to the fact that the real Camp Bastion runway doesn’t have these markings on them in r/l, according to my references. The model consists of 13,492 Triangles for the main mesh, and 1,309 tris for the collision meshes.
